(Sri Gaura Lila, Chapter two excerpt)
The extraordinary sweetness of her Baby's smile created an ocean of joy and wonder in Sachi-devi's innocent heart. The beauty of His face, the charming movements of His lotus hands, the exquisite lotus-petal shape and languid closing of His dark eyes made everyone remember Sri Krishna. Yet this Child's complexion was not dark, but brilliantly golden-hued, eclipsing the splendor of millions of moons. Just by contact with His glance all depression dissipated and everyone's natural joy of worshipping the Supreme Lord arose within their minds. All who looked upon this Child, inexplicably decorated with beautiful golden bracelets, jasmine flowers, pearls, and irridescent jewels, were swept up in waves of love of God and compassion for all souls. Sachi-devi looked to her father, the great astrologer Nilambar Chakravarti, to explain the marvelous qualities of the Child in her arms.
Certainly the qualities of a divine personality were present, yet this Child seemed far beyond all divinity previously revealed in this world. Such sweetness, radiance, cheerful smiling, and happy acceptance of everyone who came to greet Him were beyond all comparison in the fourteen worlds. The Child was not only loveable, but instilled great love within the hearts of all, creating an atmosphere of tremendous compassion and well-wishing even among so-called enemies. He seemed to fulfill everyone's desires even before they could think of them. Contemplating these things, Nilambar became more and more overwhelmed.
Lost in wonder, experiencing deep love in the core of his heart, Nilambar grew silent. In the hushed moment, a wonderful saint mysteriously appeared on the scene. Seeming to speak the words Nilambar Chakravarti could not, he gave his verdict on the Lord's astrological chart. ...
"Your Child is certainly the Supremem Lord Krishna Himself, the Lord of lords and God of all. He has returned to reveal and teach the essence of all religion, and in so doing, begin the most wonderful preaching movement. He will deliver the whole world. Anyone who sees Him will be filled with compassion for all living entities, losing all sense of material pain or joy. This Boy will give what even the great demigod and sages, Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva, and Shukadeva Goswami eternally desire but rarely, if ever, attain. Love of Krishna is the ultimate gift and this Boy is the ultimate Giver." ... The saint continued his predictions, increasing everyone's astonishment and happiness. "Not only will ordinary men become filled with compassion for each other, but even the atheists' hearts will melt into submission at this Boy's Lotus Feet. This golden Personality will be glorified far beyond the boundaries of Nadia. All the worlds will praise and worship Him for He is the personification of the king of all knowledge and most secret of secrets. The cows, brahmanas, and devotees will receive all protection from Him, and He will be the devoted Son of His parents. ...
"Seeing His incomparable qualities and future Pastimes, I see that His Name shall be 'Vishvambhara.' Please hear me; This Child shall also be known as 'Navadvipa Chandra,' the Golden Moon of Navadvipa, for He is spiritual bliss personified."
Even though Jagannatha Mishra did not fully understand the purport of the saint's revelation of names for his Son, he was overcome with desire to give him all kinds of gifts. Yet he had no wealth to bestow and so fell at the holy man's feet, crying in gratitude. The saint in turn caught hold of Mishra's feet and both were lost in waves of love of God. Everyone present laughed in joy and shouted "Krishna! Krishna!" ... Aditi, mother of the demigods, came to offer gifts. Smiling, she seemed to offer a blessing of long life, but actually she prayed, "Please stay with us forever and reveal to us Your Pastimes."
