"Dawn of the Age of Love - Blessed is this Holy Evening"
March 6, 2015
The Holy Name swept over the land in waves, like a great ocean, and out of the churning of this ocean arose the brilliant moon of Sri Krishna Caitanya. With His birth the trumpeting of conchshells filled the air, the roll of dundubhi drums shook the land. All living entities, moving and non-moving, thrilled to the sound of flutes and horns. The victorious rejoicing of all Godly souls shattered the hopes of Kali's army. His dark reign receded with the dawn of the age of Prema. Where could Kali hide now that the fourteen worlds were singing the Holy Name? Lord Caitanya's brilliant luster transformed that black night as the Holy Name washed away all fear and enmity.
Hastened by the Lord's appearance the full beauty of springtime arrived. Suddenly the forest was cloaked in vibrant color and the kadamba trees burst into bloom. Like beautiful jewels glistening in the water, lotuses and lilies adorned the clear lakes. A pure breeze began to blow throughout Nadia, perfuming the land with the fragrance of flowers. The brush of no earthly or celestial artist could capture the delicate assemblage of warmth and fragrance, the pure joy spilling forth from all creatures great and small.
But the earth's beauty paled in comparison to the Golden Lord, Sri Gaura Hari. Like the glow of the brilliant moon, His Glance healed the wounds of Kali-yuga. His Lotus Eyes were beautifully curved and slightly drooping, and His lips were crimson like the setting sun. A conchshell, flag, and thunderbolt marked the soles of His Feet, and other auspicious signs showed on His Body. The Son of Jagannatha Mishra and Sachi-devi captivated even Cupid and shamed worldly opulence. His brilliant luster, charming face and beautiful Form astonished everyone. No one had ever seen such extraordinary beauty. Whoever gazed upon the Son of Sachi-devi or uttered His Name was freed of all sorrow.
Only the Lord's mercy rivaled His splendor. The whole of Navadvipa danced and chanted the Holy Names of Krishna. Singing, jumping in the air, laughing, crying, embracing everyone around them, the devotees shed tears of ecstacy. Brahmanas and melecchas, friends and enemies, poor and rich joined as equals. No longer bound by Kali's chains, calling out the Lord's Holy Name, all living entities became united together by pure Prema-bhakti.
The sound of the brahmana's prayers drifted over Kali from across the Ganges. Their words were a final confirmation of his fear: "Blessed is this Holy Evening of the Advent of Sri Caitanya, our Blessed Master, most highly cherished by all pure devotees who declare the worship of this day to have the power to kindle ecstatic love of Krishna." Certain now of the truth, Kai vanished with the night.
The Lord glanced up at Mother Sachi and smiled.
